As used on Mopars there is either a junction block, with or without a 
metering block,  or a combination valve.  A junction block sends the brake 
fluid to its various destinations without changing the pressure going out of 
any outlet, and came on 4 wheel drum cars.  A combination valve adds a 
proportioning function inside the junction block, which reduces the pressure 
in the line going to the rear axle; an example would be the brass block 
installed on '73 and up A body front disc cars.  A standalone metering block 
used in the rear line of Mopar disc brake cars in the '60s and at least 
through '70, downline of the junction block, simply reduces the pressure 
from its input to its output in the rear line.  And a standalone adjustable 
aftermarket proportioning valve does exactly the same thing in the rear 
line, but the pressure differential is adjustable.  I'm no engineer, I 
figure there are some more scientific terms for all this.
