When I did the 300K cooling system last year I used the 2947 fan clutch. I did use studs to make the attachment easier, but it is still a bitch to get at. I put the studs into the clutch fan, with red Loctite and then used lock nuts on
that. Then bolts into the pump as usual with the fan attached to the clutch. Plus, cardboard between the radiator and the fan until done. I also used one of the fail-safe thermostats also just in case. When I was just 16 years old, and had my license for a month, I had impossible to get tickets to a big rock concert in San Francisco. I snagged a date that was one of the prettiest girls in my high school. In
a 1971 Plymouth we headed to San Francisco from my hometown 60 miles away. Just as I cleared the Golden Gate Bridge and going down blood bath alley as they used to call it, the car died. Stuck thermostat as it turned out. The rest of the day was a nightmare,
all the while trying to look “cool” in front of my date. I am sure that everyone knows what a PITA it is to get under the A/C on a MOPAR to get to the thermostat. I now use Allen Head bolts so I can get to it the thermostat with an angle Allen wrench. I still
tense up when I think of that day! I have a new radiator and so far, the car has been fine. Once I get the A/C back up and running and get stuck on some highway at 10 MPH in the valley on a 105F day, we shall see.
