John – Yes, the rubber on the vertical seal and roof rail should be flocked. It reduces binding caused by the friction between the rubber and the chrome strip on top of the window. Ron From: John Grady agree with Ron , I bought a G trunk seal once , forget from who , it was essentially solid neoprene , advertised then as “ not soaking up water like the foam did” ; it was correct shape etc . “ Improved” “ “Wont tear thin skin or fall apart like stock “ So after carefully gluing on , I Found trunk lid would not close unless really slammed , and forever stood higher up , near hinges , and even worse did not conform to ( normal ) 3D erratic body contours ( too stiff ) so it leaked . new white paint job —- did not want to even think of getting it off. Still on it somewhere ….. ? Very related , all the repro roof rail strips seem tight in a friction sense and drag on the window , can spend hours on that especially 57-59 , some ( original) have a place where rubber channel design changes engagement design at top , over joint of front and rear side glass , hard to explain — but you know it when you see it . this drag stresses pw motor too , generally you end up leaving glass outside of rubber and a little loose, especially when repro strip does not have that transition . Gets even worse, glass fit and tracking on converts. Fact is body tolerances , maybe even design , of that whole area is awful . I noticed original has flocked areas , sometimes all the way , sometimes just quarter window . probably helped a lot when soft and new But it seems repro bare tubber is stiff , just wants to really grab that chrome , thought about silicone but arrrgh on that Any ideas out there ? Have one like that now 58 D , someone else spent huge amount of time , adjustment screws etc all rounded off , Convert top edge and rubber fight with the window glass at top , tilt of glass fit front to back , and in and out , and engagement with quarter window seal . On this one , it looks like PO gave up for a while. Gotta love those big rubber globs at top of door opening , and over seam near handle , too Maybe lots of patience and do it 20x is only way , i have sometimes had to slot adjustments too . ?
