How would gasoline ever get in between the tank and floor (except
failure at filler neck)? Never saw any such evidence when
restoring my 300C 56 years later in 2013. There was only some
remnants of what looked like thin tan butcher-paper on top of the
tank. We even found a partial faded blue oval logo for USSteel,
the manufacturer of the original sheet metal tank material with
"long terne" (lead-tin) anti-corrosion coating. I had a couple
reconstructed decals made of that incomplete logo and applied them
every three feet to the exposed bottom of the new unmarked tank as
if the marking had been there from the beginning. Subtle car-show
touch.

--I'd think you would have to try to slop gas on top of a properly mounted tank.
Rubber seems like it would trap moisture.
Have you experienced tar paper coming apart due to gas spills?

If any gasoline slops onto the tarpaper, the tar will be dissolved out and make a mess. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Looking for suggestions as to what to put between the gas tank and the floor of the trunk. I saw on one generic website that original type tar paper is now replaced by a thin rubber sheet. Hopefully something I can get from a hardware store or the like. I would like to ensure there is no chance of promoting rusting of the tank or floor.
Thanks
Henry
