Re: {Chrysler 300} Max Wheel Size

Hi John and company,

Hankook discontinued the the Optimo line and replace it with the Kinergy Line ( a much improved line).  The part numbers for the 225/75R15 1022046 102T BSW and 1024739 102T WSW and for the 235/70R15 1021920 103T BSW.  I'll be putting the 235's on my J when she is ready for the road.  If any one in the club needs more information please feel free to reach out any time.  I am the New England Hankook rep and also worked Continental Tire

@John, I would love to see you Hurst some time.

Thank you

Also from the 'for what it's worth' category,
I use Hancook Optima 225/75/R15 on my G to get a 'taller' tire to help fill the wheel wells.  They perform well with no interference issues, but a 'day two' thinner whitewall than original, but only about $80 each.
On my Hurst I have 235/70/R15 raised white letter tires called Mastercraft Courser HTR from Town Fair Tire (discount tire store in New England).
They provide a nice look for the Hurst and seem to handle and ride well and are also under $100 each the last time I bought them.  Sadly, tires need to be replaced due to age/time on my old cars before any wear issues occur, so it's hard to justify $1000 for a set of 'correct' tires that I'll have to throw away over safety  concerns rather than wear.
No issues with wheel covers or trim rings ever (so far).

Hi all:

For what it's worth,  I anticipated wheel covers coming off when I first bought my F.  A friend of mine had told me of his experience of losing wheel covers on long trips and on winding roads.

My solution was to apply extra layers of black paint on the wheels in the areas where the tangs would bite.  I also bent the tangs on the covers a bit so they would grab a tighter grip.  The bottom line is that the covers are a bit harder to put on and get off, but the end result is not having to find and buy another expensive cover somewhere.  20,000 miles later, I still have the same covers on my wheels.

These embossed protrusions were to keep the wheel cover in place. If you don't have these, you can line the rim with a good fabric tape. Wheel covers stay in place.

Metal valve stems may keep them from spinning off.

Thanks Keith and George.

What tires are you using?

I am tired of chasing the hub caps.  I may get a set of 15x7 something with a 4 inch backspace and call it a day as far as wheels go. The brand new 14-inch steel wheels on the car are fine, I am just not interested in restoring a set of factory hubcaps just to see them spit off.

My folks ’64 300K used to lose a cap every now and then when new as well. So, I know it is a long term issues when the cars are driven daily or with sprit.

I have 15x7” Dodge “Police Wheels” on our 300K without any issues. I did try 15x8” wheels on our ‘65 B Body and the outer perimeter would rub on the suspension in the front (no issues on rear fitment.)  I don’t know if the same issue would occur on a C Body.

What is the maximum wheel (rim) width people have had on a 1963 – 1964 Body without any clearance issues?

Assume a 15 inch dia.

Thanks, James
