Hello Henry - I found this thread on alignment dating back ten years ago. The messages below were in response to an inquiry about specs for RADIAL tires, not the bias-ply types originally on the '57 cars, but there is no mention of any difference in specs. I'm no expert in alignment for these old cars, but I recall that we (the restoration shop) just got it into visual "looks OK from here" configuration and had the car flat-bedded to the best alignment shop in town. I asked about the unsymmetrical specs for left and right sides; the shop foreman 'splained it to me and I nodded my head, but didn't really understand! They worked on it for a couple hours (twice what would be normal for a modern car) and said they could eventually get the camber and toe-in numbers, but had trouble getting to the caster spec; online advice at the time was to get camber and toe right and just crank in as much caster as you could. I know I have it somewhere, but can't quickly find the final specs attained by my alignment shop - the car tracks pretty much OK, although it acts different on left or right side of a crowned road, and "pulls" to right a little as front end dives (compresses) on braking (could be combination of unequal braking and suspension geometry changing with that "dive"). I suspect that old cars were pretty squirrely back then; our fathers and grandfathers just didn't know the difference and thought it was normal!
