RE: {Chrysler 300} 1964 300K Wiring Harness

I know that you can buy brand new bulkhead connector plastic as I just did for my “K”.   It has been a few decades since I worked on the ’64 RAM 300K  I had briefly in High School, but I do not remember much difference in the wiring from the single 4BBL cars. But that was a long time ago.

There is a “K” in the yard up at John’s (Big M) that I think has the under-dash harness in it. Someone took the entire front end. I got the engine side of the bulkhead harness connector and the two feet of wire that was cut from that car.

If he has to go through the work to replace that much wiring, I would take this as an opportunity to make a couple of modifications for the bulkhead issue. At the least, if he orders up a new harness as opposed to an old one, he should specify that those two #12 circuits be upgraded to #8 wire and make sure it is Cross Linked Poly and not PVC on those two. I would also drill out the bulkhead connector and run those wires through it and put a couple of modern high current connectors under the dash were they cannot be seen to connect them.

Since I just went through researching all the alternatives and their pro-cons tell him to give me a call if he wants to talk about it. What one does for a driver like mine is different than what one would want to do for a concourse car.

Subject: {Chrysler 300} 1964 300K Wiring Harness

A club member (Elliott Parker) with a nice 300 ram K contacted me for guidance on an electrical fire that impacted his under hood and under dash harnesses.  He’s not far enough into it to determine the extent of the damage but is trying to line up replacements.

Some questions:

Can you confirm the ’63 and ’64 harnesses are different?  I see the bulkhead connectors are different.  And that the ’63 300J shifter was not in the console.

Can you advise me/him whether the harness for a console car with shifter is significantly different from the harness of a push-button Torky car?  I know mine has a special feed for the console electrics.

Are the under hood harnesses the same for both years/all models?

Are new harnesses available?  I think the Canadian guy retired.

Do any of you have a spare harness or bulkhead connector for a ’64 you would part with?

I see Murray Park has a used under dash harness for a ’64 for $75.  If they are all the same in ’64  that seems like a bargain.  If he needs to find a harness specifically for an A/C ram car with console, that may be a challenge.

Thanks for your input and Happy New Year to all.
