Re: {Chrysler 300} Clutch fan, pump and bolts

James,

I have put together a number of these fan clutches ( with thermal control to speed it up when the radiator is hot ). I use a long stainless set screw to act as a stud - lets you easily adjust the depth with an allen wrench. I put a drop of red Loctite on the threaded hole and turn it in until the projection is at 11/16". Seems to be right for the fan hub, the serrated washer and a normal nut. If you are using a nylock nut, you may want to increase the projection to compensate.
The easiest way to install in the car is to install and tighten the fan to the clutch, and then the clutch to the water pump.
Be sure to use a correct size pilot hole clutch ( I think it's 5/8"), or sleeve it to be right on size. Otherwise you will have undesirable vibrations.

Hi All,

Trying to get the bolts into the pump to mount the clutch & fan is a PITA. One has to “hang” the unit with one very loose bolt to be able to get the others started as they want to hit the clutch hub otherwise.

Has anyone had any success placing exactly the correct length studs into the pump side, with red Loctite, and then using nylocs nuts on the thing?

I can get the bolts in with serrated lock washers, but like I said it is a PITA.

I have the radiator out and it is a pain, on the road if something should require it, it would be even harder with the radiator in.

Thanks for any suggestions.  James
