Re: [Chrysler300] 300 H ignition and trunk key availability.

Agree on all that , and there are plymouth , Dodge desoto specific artwork heads with different part numbers but all fit same locks ( this caused me a lot of confusion, looking for Chrysler specific key blanks by number ) . All work . After going through all this and sort of solving it , I discovered mopar made OEM kits with 4 new keys and all lock cylinders , or two keys and ignition cylinder to fix situation of lost keys easily —without locksmith . These are generic key heads , have forward look V on it . They were not hard to find 5 years back . There are two guys on line , beware one guy buys up all the blanks he can ,wants 35 for one key. Trying to corner market. Other guy is a real good guy in Rhode Island helped me on this . I have lost the data on it . FYI
A locksmith can also make a key for your old cylinder if you bring to him but can get pricey as most of the cylinders are sort of preset and do not come apart for a new pin program . By the way in doing this found out there are only a few hundred different key patterns  !
Personally I keyed doors and ign lock new and / or to match ( use old the stuff in the car for the cylinders ) do not care much about trunk lock or glove box . Leave unlocked . Many trunks are wrecked around lock in the past by thieves getting in , and our cars are no longer daily vacation drivers . But obviously your call on that one !
One thing I found is whole switch tends to be loose in dash metal , and tightening it ruins paint . I  made gaskets for the switches and key switch trim rings, cut from polyethylene water jugs or milk bottles . Works great you can honk on it no scratches and takes up the gap or
Play .

Most locksmiths will have generic key blanks that will work.   I always try to find OEM blanks with the proper head shape and logo on them and pay the locksmith to cut the keys,  A big locksmith may even have the proper blanks.  Ask them NOT to stamp their shop name on the new cut keys.  If your old keys are worn, the locksmith may want to give the new keys a little extra wire brushing on the highs and lows.  A quick glance indicates the proper keys are for 1959-1965 Mopar’s and may be a little more scarce than later keys. I also see “MoPar” logo keys that are not.

The locks are set up so the brass key wears faster than the pins and groves in the lock.  Still, once every 50 years or so, it is a good idea to have the locksmith clean and lube the lock cylinder.  The ignition switch has a in release in the bezel threads that enables the cylinder to be removed for a quick trip to the locksmith for new keys and a rinse and lube.  Shop around for a good price.  There appear to be ripoffs and knockoffs out there if you are looking for OEM appearance keys.

This looks like the real deal to me:

Anyone got suggestions as to where to find blank ignition and trunk keys for my H?  Only have one set and it makes me nervous not having a backup.

Thanks
