I must confess ignorance as to what, specifically, was done to the HD PowerFlite transmission in our ’55 C-300 to stop it from leaking. It may have been a sleeve with an external seal. I just kept throwing money at it until it stopped leaking. I don’t think they leaked when new. I do recall my tranny mechanic using the round end of a ball-peen hammer to create dimples around the bolt-holes in the pan. Pounding from the inside out created small Belleville springs that added a little compression to the rim around the edge of the pan and underlying gasket. Over the years, repeated removal and replacement of the pan had dished the steel pan rim at the bolt holes slightly with resultant reduction of compression between the bolt holes.
I do recall a shared wisdom from my Fluids instructor at Iowa State who gave us the first law of hydraulics: “Hydraulic systems leak!”
Or, maybe Socrates had it right, “There is no solution, seek it lovingly.”

What internal repairs can be done to prevent the converter to leak down ?

Mick & all:
As I recall from my PowerFlite leakage problem, it could not be fixed until repairs were made internally to prevent the torque converter from draining down and flooding the system beyond what it was designed to hold.
Just $0.02 (maybe less) worth.

300ers,
Thanks for all the offers of parts and suggestions about the shirt cable. After I read all the replies I've decided to get it on a lift and see if is just a really bad leak that can be fixed with the heat tube suggestion.
If it turns out that it needs a new cable I now have leads on several used and maybe a source for a new one.
