When I lived in Illinois near the Mississippi River, I used to drive by a house in which a young man who was going to dental college lived. His father owned a huge salvage yard across the street . We all lived in a very rural area. I would frequently see a used small Pontiac (Sprint?) parked in front, and then sometimes a large wrecked Pontiac sedan. They would both disappear into a barn-like garage on the property. Then I would see a GTO parked out on his yard. Sometimes, on a nice day, I'd see him working on a newly painted GTO. I was incredibly ignorant and thought he was perhaps restoring GTOs as a hobby. I stopped one time and he told me he was "creating" GTOs. He said he could make $10,000 on each one and that was how he was putting himself through college. I asked about the vin plate and he said that was a tough job because he had to have special dies to upset the rivets on the new rivets in the new vin plates he installed. This began when he was in High School and continued up until the state of Missouri got tied into a national data base and it was discovered that the lad's father was building cars from wrecks, selling them to a friend in Missouri who titled them in his name, then sold them back into Illinois, shedding the "salvage" line on the title. Our Credit Union (I was a Board Member) held title to a lot of these bargain cars as we had financed them. A lot of people went to jail. I always wondered how many of his faux GTOs are still out there.

In '67 GTOs there are still I think 3 different bodies, and if the 2 door post/pillared model was still offered in '67 like I think it was, that '67 GTO is worth a fair bit less than the 2 door (non pillar), or the convert. Then there are engine and trans options, bench seat even I think. So if this GTO is a lowest hp, bench seat pillared GTO, and it has rust in usual GTO places like trunk floor outers where body bracs are, plus if it not a convert they often rust bad round rear window, etc - then that GTO is not worth a lot, even less if it a non runner and an auto, basic 10 bolt diff/axle, and has wrong rims/wheels - correct date coded genuine issue stuff like rims etc for GTOs is/are often silly prices. It is the old story - it is not just what you pay for a car to restore, it is what it owes you at the end - versus what it then worth !! But near any '67 GTO even in most basic least sought variety, would still be a good car to drive versus many other old cars, Christopher in Australia CC: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: jmaiani@xxxxxxxxxxx From: Chrysler300-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2014 12:17:30 -0400 Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Question about 64 K Hi Jim, Not knowing specifics on either car, it looks like you'd be ahead by a bit on the K. Hagerty Price Guide shows the GTO in #4 condition (running, which this one isn't) and a K (running, which this one is) at $11,900.
