Thanks Steve! I found it on America's Tire website for $77. Very
reasonable price, and I will never put on 40K miles on my G!

If you go to the Discount Tire or America's Tire Company website
(interchangeable name apparently) they show a Cooper Trendsetter SE tire in
the 235-75-R15 available in a white side wall (I estimate about 3/4 inch) as
available for $67 each in my area (southern california). Such a tire might
not be available in other areas of the country though. This is the tire I
use on most of my C bodies. It is an adequate tire for these cars and for
the price, I am not complaining. A Michelin tire seems to have a stiffer
sidewall, but at least this one is available at reasonable cost. 40K mile
treadlife claim.

Ed,
I have gone Hankook, Kumho, Firestone and Cooper websites and do not see a
235/75/R15 whitewall listed. Where are you getting your information from on
availability of whitewall radials in this size? I know about Diamond Back,
and how they put on their own whitewall, but they are very expensive at
about $250/tire. If you know of a link for any company that shows a
whitewall 235/75R15 from a manufacturer of the tire please post the link.
Thanks!

Be thankful you are not looking for big 14 inch with narrow white.
Try Hankook or Kumho Solus or Firestone or Cooper. And there must be
half a dozen made by Cooper (Mastercraft, Multi-Mile, ElDorado,
Hercules, etc) - but I would stay with a production tire from a major
name as above. Tires in normal production tend to be more consistently
good quality than those made infrequently or on specialty (old)
equipment. And traditionally manufacturers put a bit more QC in the
tires they put their own name on as compared to the cheaper second line
tires. There is also probably a Toyo, but I did not like the feel of the
Chinese Toyos I almost bought for my dad's car.
I've heard good things about both the Hankook and the Kumho. More so
than recent posts about balance issues and other problems with the
bigger Cokers and American Classics. Don't know anyone running the
Firestones or Coopers.
And you may want to check the specifications (diameter especially) - had
heard of some (Cooper?) that were smaller OD than older tires of same
size markings. My book shows 7.60-15 as OE for a 300J, (thought it was
8.00-15 - maybe the 8.00-15 was an option or maybe early 300's). Old
BFGoodrich Engineering Book shows 28.76 inch dia for 7.60-15 and 29.26
inch for 8.00-15.
Probably most of what you will find will be same sidewall width about 1
inch maybe a bit narrower - though you would have to look. Agree on the
1.6 inch (plus see above), but the real world is you probably will not
find perfect match to 1 1/16 or 1 1/8 inch width. And I would prefer a
3/4 inch from a known name brand.
I think Sears can get Firestone and Kumho and Hankook - may be a place
to look - though I don't care for their installers - had a really bad
experience on a car once.
best, Ed
