Re: [Chrysler300] softening windscren rubbers & a 60 'how to?' question

To Soften Your Rubber Seals:
Go to your local hardware store and pick up a gallon of Go-Jo waterless hand cleaner. NOT the kind with the orange scent and grit in it, get the original Go-Jo hand cleaner. Get a large container like a wash tub or feed bucket. Put the rubber gasket in it. Using a soft bristle paint brush, apply the Go-Jo very liberally to the rubber, covering every square inch. You might want to wear latex gloves to keep the black residue off your hands. Cover the tub to keep it relatively air-tight. You can use a piece of plywood or something like it. I used Saran Wrap celophane. Wait 24 hours, remove the cover, re-apply more Go-Jo with the brush, then cover the tub again for another 24 hours. Remove the gasket from the tub, all the goo will be black now. Lay the gasket on the driveway and hose it off. Use a toothbrush to clean all the goo out of the grooves. You might have to use a screwdriver to clean out the groove if it's too gummy. Let the rubber dry off. Clean the black goo out of the tub. After the rubber is dry, put another coat of Go-Jo on it and cover it in the clean tub for another 24 hours, then wash the Go-Jo off one more time. Let the rubber dry again, and you'll have a soft supple piece of rubber to work with.

) Sorry to ask, but what was the simple stuff you rub into old windscreen
ubber/rubber, to soften it up a bit? Know it has been mentioned before.
) How the ***** do you most simply remove the chrome surround part of the dash
ounted hood release on a '60 New Yorker - no doubt the 300F the same?! Are
here screws in behind it that hold it, a slip out tongue like some trunk/door
ocks have - or what. Boy these 60s Chryslers are so unfriendly to work on
ersus the '57 300 models - like what the hell changed, why does it seem there
re so many things on the later model so unfriendly to work on - did no one tell
he designers the part they were creating had to go on a car, plus then be
asily removed !!!?
nd the workshop Manual and parts books never show the small important parts,
ust the big so obvious to 'blinfd freddy' bits!!??

hristopher Australia - nice cooler weekend just finished here
