RE: [Chrysler300] 300 c carburetor modifications

Hi Vince,

I recall that in September 2002 you installed your original rebuilt 300C
engine and had some problems getting the 300C to get the idle low enough
without stalling. I assume you corrected the idle problem.

Metering rods are three step are for 1957 300C. I have listed the diameter
of the rods, as Economy, Mid and Wide open.

1 lean - #75-1180, .077, .068, .052
58 Standard #75-1160, .076, .066, .048
Original - 57 #75-1263, .075, .065, .042
2 lean #75-1181, .078, .070, .055

My carbs were modified in 1957 by the original owner. I use the 1 lean rods.
Technical Bulletin #364 tells us to use "Carter Meter Rod # 75-1160" which I
think to "too rich" for normal driving.

Hope you locate the metering rods you want.

We have owned our 300C for over 50 years.

I would like to try the modifications described in the Chrysler TECHNICAL
BULLETIN #364 (or 384) dated 7/18/57. The change involves installing (4)
metering rods #75-1160. Does anyone know a source? Or can anyone tell me
the diameter of the rod at high speed (small diameter) and low speed (large
diameter). Is there a cross reference chart available that shows Chrysler
numbers vs carter numbers on the metering rods. Does anyone have any info
how this change worked in their car, especially regarding idle? I think I
read somewhere that this change was incorporated into carburetors for 1958.
Anyone have any advice? I have the motor on a running stand in the garage
and will happily post results if I can get enough parts and info to try it.
If the change is already in the 58 carbs, I could trade my spare 57 carbs.
