OPTIMA BATTERY UPDATES: I was at Costco just over a week ago to replace a 12 volt Optima for our 300B. The price is now about $130.00 and after looking in my wallet and considering how much I use the car I chose to go a less expensive route with a conventional battery from Costco. This one has almost as much CCA (Cold Cranking Amps and carries a 36 month full replacement for about $55.00. Also it looks more like a battery the car was delivered with when new. Regarding my purchase of a 6 volt Optima recently. After purchasing the battery for $128.95 (Interstate Battery informed me they are now about $180.00) I contacted the fellow who makes the boxes for the Packard Club and ordered one. At that time he asked how old this battery was and I informed him "new" and why was he asking. His reply was Optima changed the battery dimensions and I had to modify the box to accommodate. At that time I never thought much about it and ordered the box. When it arrived and I installed it I found that the original 6 volt battery surround hold down would not fit as the box was to large. So someone needs to modify the original frame, make a new one with larger dimensions or discover some other method to anchor the box and battery down. As of this writing I've not done so and have gone back to Interstate and purchased a conventional 6 volt battery and made the installation. It was about $89 which is less that half of the Optima price. I've used Optima's for probably 20 years with very good success, but due to rising cost of the product and decreasing dollars in my wallet I've chosen a different route. To my knowledge there is no box to hide their different appearance. FYI: If you are going to be using a battery box keep in mind that the Packard Club offers (2) choices. The more expensive one that looks like a tar top battery has the post in the opposite corners of the standard 6 volt batteries used in Chryslers. The other box that is offered is simply a black box, but the post locations are in the correct position and it is about $20.00 less as I remember. I noticed that your e-mail stated '55 Packard, so if this is what you are trying to place the battery in everything could be different. I have two of these in current use in the '55 Imperial and T&C. YnZ made different cables to accommodate the change.
