I do know for sure that petroleum based anything in a hydraulic brake system that is designed for DOT 3 fluid is disasterous. DOT 4 can be used in place of DOT 3 but is mostly used in European cars and has higher temp specs than does DOT 3. I just replaced all the rubber pieces in a three ton truck that had dump bed hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic brake system. Cost to reverse that little mistake cost the upfitter a back charge close to 6K. Anything petroleum based does not belong anywhere near a hydraulic brake system and it would seem reasonable to me to extend that thinking to a top mechanism also.
