[Chrysler300] Re:1957 300C radiator.

Over the years, I've mentally noted the spacing difference among the fittings for the heat exchanger for transmission fluid in the bottom tanks of the 300C radiators in the past. Now that Marv Raguse brings it up and has also provided the date code of the radiator he has (D 7 = April '57 production), it would follow that this was a running production change.

The fittings are at the ends of the heat exchanger and thus the engineers either decided there was not enough or too much cooling effect on the fluid. Yes, it is possible to keep auto trans fluid too cool.

It would take a poll of many 1686597 radiators to find out when the change took place during production and whether they found they needed to go wider or narrower with the exchanger. Whether they went to more or less cooling can probably be answered by the 300D radiators which probably stayed at the preferred width.

If anyone would care to verify they have the 1686597 correct radiator, send me the date code embossed next to the part number, and the spacing measurement for the trans coolant lines, I'll accumulate totals and perhaps get some answers. And what do some of you D owners have for spacing?
