I will give some more insight on this ethanol topic since I live in Iowa, and the ethanol is manufactured and promoted heavily here.

I think it is great that the USA grown product is used to stretch the valuable gasoline stock that we use.  Any car built after about 1983 should be able to use the product with no problems at all.  Performance and mileage is very similar to 100% gasoline.  And if you use your car as most do, you will not have any problems with moisture, sedimentations, or vapor locks.  I would not recommend switching back and forth from 100% to ethanol on a regular basis.  A tank here or there one way or the other does not seem to bother the cars.  Also ethanol is much superior to MTBE, which I will stay away from my past experiences in Colorado.

Now when you start to talk about our older cars that is another side of the coin.  As mentioned before many of the older carbs and rubber fuel parts fail when exposed to the ethanol.  My new in 79 Cordoba/300 with the 360 was one such example.  After I had ethanol in the tank the carb had to be rebuilt with the parts to resist the ethanol.  Also the ethanol tends to clean any rust or sediment you may have in the fuel tank thus clogging your fuel filter several times.  After that the ethanol is as above.

My recommendation is to use the best fuel (octane, and quality) as you can.  Stick to what you can purchase locally, and when you travel try to stay with the same type (ethanol vs. 100%).  It is not always possible, and be prepared to replace the rubber parts in your carbs, and change the fuel filters if you have never used ethanol or have an older carb that has not been rebuilt since the 80's.  Personally the older cars get the 100%, and the newer cars get the ethanol.

Just a little word on ethanol.

In 1985, I drove my 1956 Dodge to the WPC Meet in Detroit.  On the way home, 
somewhere in Iowa, I decided to fill up with an ethanol mixture to see how it 
would work.  Did I ever make a mistake.  The car ran extremely rugged.  I 
could hardly wait to run the tank down and get to the next fill-up and buy some 
"good" gasoline.  If I had my druthers, I would ban ethanol mixtures.
