RE: Re: [Chrysler300] Modern Fuel Line

> I am yet to be convinced that even the most modern hoses will stand up to ethanol for long periods of time. I have used the latest hoses in my fuel lines on my various cars and they now last about two years instead of one. In terms of evaporative emissions, ethanol still permeates even the best elastomers, thus contributing to excess hydrocarbon emissions that lead to higher ozone levels. In buying replacement fuel pumps for my later cars that are not rebuildable, I have no idea how ethanol resistant they are, do you? I have had a couple go bad with little mileage on them recently. Also, ethanol has less energy content than gasoline, so it leads to less fuel mileage than conventional gasoline alone. Thus you get both - higher fuel consumption and higher fuel prices. I really doubt that the use of ethanol will help much regarding the middle east situation given the rate of fuel consumption increase worldwide. I think it makes more sense to buy smaller cars or to use more technology such as cylinder deactivation as on the new Hemi 300C to reduce fuel consumption than to go to ethanol. I would instead pour the money spent on ethanol into hydrogen and fuel cell development, even if fuel cells are 10 to 20 years away. After all, how much longer will oil be around or how wise is it to keep relying on it given where it comes from?
