{Chrysler 300} Setting transmission throttle lever.

Is there a tried and true way to set the throttle lever on a 63 727 ? The service manual says to set it with the lever forward at the stop. With no throttle ( where it is at idle). I did this and it shifts perfectly according to the speed chart in the book. Problem is it won’t kick down. I have read forums that say to adjust it with the accelerator all the way down ( full throttle) and the kick down all the back at the stop. Just can’t get it right that way either. Which is it or is there a trick I’m missing ? My fall back is have the kick down inoperable because it shifts so good and I don’t hot rod it. Not sure what to do. Can’t imagine it could hurt the trans to not kick down, but this is my first Mopar. Thanks for any help!
