Re: {Chrysler 300} 64 console shift cable adjustment

I set  in them in N with a  test light to 12 v on the neutral start switch, — linkage or PB in N . Easy!
approach N from either side till light goes on (switch grounds) count teeth in wheel or mark with scribe ;?keep  going over hump till light goes out . then put cable adj  in exact  center between the marks .perfect on rooster   comb N peak then
lever moves in an arc  setting in middle makes a lot of engineering sense . Think about it
Despite “ official wisdom”’fsm way is flat out dumb all play is happening  at  one end, lever is angled Makes no sense . There , I said it

If course rest of rod/ cable has to be no play — If it changes one should suspect loose bushings loose sheath etc external to this aspect

Now for the third time after following the service manual adjustment procedure to the T, I arrive back in the garage with reverse gone and pushing the shifter hard forward to get into Park. Will start in Neutral, and lower gears engage.

I am having the shifter held back hard in low gear as I adjust the cable at the trans.

Would I be advised to err with the cable deeper or outward with the star wheel final setting? Or not hold the shifter back?

Has anyone run into the same issue? I never had an issue with push button shifters.
