Ron, I think you had it right with the first pic. Mine has the spring. 330 Hemi.

So I may have confused everyone with the canister oil filter diagram that I posted earlier. That one was used on poly engines, 55 and up. For the hemis, like what you find in Desoto and Chrysler, this is what it should look like. No spring on this one.
