RE: [Chrysler300] WATER,WATER EVERYWHERE

I've always understood that distilled water was recommended but never really worried about it too much as we have such soft water here in this part of the world. I was always under the impression that it was the hard minerals in the water that did the damage over time.

Recently, I replaced the rad, water pump, hoses, thermostat and housing on my BMW and did some research on what antifreeze I should be using after flushing the system.(I'm a bit anal that way) Again, even for this newer well refined German machine, it is recommended that distilled water should always be used. Hi Gerald,I too have read not to use distilled water. As I remember, the reason given was that since it has no minerals in it, it wants to leach minerals from it's surroundings. In the case of one's radiator, that would be lead solder and other softer metals. That may be where solder bloom comes from. The article recommended tap water or bottled drinking water I believe. Don't know if it is true or not, but I never used distilled water and never had a problem, but then we always had good tasting drinking water. Maybe some of that West Texas water might not be the best. :-PBill HuffAt 2/11/200810:00 AM, GERALD OLSON wrote:>New subject for the group.
