RE: [Chrysler300] heater core removal question

There is a bracket rod that runs from the top part of the heater box to
the bottom of the dash to the left of the glove box area, that is what
they mean. Remove your glove box guts as well to gain better access to
the box. All of your vent tubes should be disconnected and removed as
well. The heater core can be removed from the car without taking the
whole box assembly out of the machine but it will mean spending a bit of
time on your back under the dash. Remove the front seats for more room
and then you can take the carpets out to clean them at the same time.
removing the ashtray assembly and radio help give more room as well. You
can clean carpets with a good cleaner and a hose, then hang them over a
pole or something to dry. Out here in California they would dry in a
day, may take some time longer though in a wetter climate. Kind of a
crappy job but not the end of the world to do.

Subject: [Chrysler300] heater core removal question

Hello All,

I'm in the process of my first heater core removal on my 66 non-letter
300 (413, no AC), and I had a rather basic question.

I have the old shop manual and have found it more than satisfactory for
most repairs I've had to make in the 10 years or so I've had the car.
But for this one I'm a little confused. Under the heater removal
section, instruction 3 reads:

"From under instrument panel remove bracket from top of heater to dash
panel."

Does that mean I have to pull off the instrument panel/dash board? And
if so, does anyone have any idea where to start with that?

And if not, is there some trick I'm missing here. I can't see how you'd
get to the bracket at the top of the heater without pulling off the
dash.

...and oh, if anyone has any good ideas about how to get the coolant out
of my carpets (and the 40 year-old stuffing underneath), I'd be more
than obligded.

As always, thanks a million for the help. Without you guys, I couldn't
have kept her running all these years.

Cheers,
Jonathan
