300-G torqflite setting

Hi 300 Group.
I need some help with the torqueflite trans. on my 300-G i went 
to adjust the kickdown band and that went fine but then i went to adjust the 
reverse low band and i set my inch pound wrench to 47 to 50 inch pounds and 
when i heard the wrench click i stoped and backed it out two and a half 
turns like the instructions said then i went to put on the lock nut and 
there was no more thread left to put the lock nut on why does the screw go 
in so far in order to get the right torque setting my other torqueflites 
never did this there was always lots of thread left to put your lock nut on
