I've just taken my water pump into NAPA and had them rebuild it.There were lots of off-brand water pumps available in the 1950's and '60's for these cars, with dubious build quality, so watch what you get. --Roger van Hoy-----Original Message----- From: ddavids@xxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2012 4:41 PM To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [FWDLK] 57 DeSoto 325 Poly Questions Thanks to those who replied with the lab squirt bottle and/or tubing technique for adding brake fluid. By the way, I've been putting speed bleeders on my cars lately, which makes brake bleeding much easier and faster. The 57 DeSotos have taken the 5/16 thread size, while later Mopars take 1/4. Easiest way to get them is through Amazon. (The way things are going, it seems like we're all going to be buying just about everything from them.) But no one has given me a lead yet on a source for rebuilt/new water pumps for 325 poly V8s. Would you believe there are adaptor plates so you can use SBC water pumps. Seriously. I do not want to go that route! The power brake unit is mounted on the firewall directly above the master brake cylinder. There is insufficient room (only about an inch) between the bottom of the power brake unit and the nut/cap on top of the master cylinder. 2) Where can I buy a rebuilt water pump?
