Excellent discussion on the engine options among the brands for 57 and 58.
This is good information for future reference.
But back to my original question, just what engine is casting number 1461416
?
I am quite certain it is not a 350. The bore only measures 3.772 and the
distributor hole is at the rear.
Could it be a Plymouth 277?

Subject: Re: [FWDLK] 350 Block Questions
The only way that a 1958 Coronet would have had an OEM B-block engine in
it
would have been if the car had had the D500 engine option in it, which
would mean that the subject engine was a 361 c.i. guy, and not the 350
c.i. motor...

So, does this mean that the 325 poly was standard on Coronet and Royal
and the 350 standard on the top line Custom series cars ???
Seems to me, the 58 Coronet SS coupe I once owned was a B-block and not
a poly. It had been in a flood and allowed to sit, so the drivetrain was
toast, so I pulled it. That was 20 years ago or more, so my memory is a
little fuzzy, but I am pretty sure I saved a bunch of pieces off the
engine for reuse on the replacement (361).

Don't think that anybody's mentioned this, on this thread, but
the 350 B block was the standard engine on the 1958 Custom Royal
and Custom Sierra wagons.
The 361 single-4 bbl engine was the standard D500, with the
dual carb 361 as the Super D500 engine.

HI DAN
No bearing caps???
That is NG
You will have to get some from a 361 or 383 and have the block align
bored to make it useable.
The 350 was one year only---1958
It was put in the GOLDEN COMMANDO PLYMOUTH--(could be ANY MODEL!!)
It was also used in MOSTLY the 2bbl version in base DESOTOS and MOSTLY
a 4bbl version for DODGE and DODGE station wagons
I have 2 GOLDEN COMMANDO PLYMOUTH blocks,,,both are casting # of
1737629
That does not mean you dont have a 350.
There may have been more than one casting time and place for the 350.
The 361s had about 5 different casting numers throughout the years.
On the front pad of the block,,,along with the sn,,,should be what it
was used for
ie: L-350 would be for the plymouth
Is your block UNUSED? Did you measure the bore???

Today I picked up a 350 block from a fellow in Everett, WA.
It's just a bare block -- no crank, bearing caps, heads, etc.
Can you guys help me verify that it's the real deal?
Here are the numbers on the block:
casting no. 1461416
date 7-15
no. on pad at front 5562119057
Is this the VIN from the car it came from? If so, what does it decode
to?
Lastly, other than the 58 Fury, which other cars could have had 350s
in them?
Thanks for any help.
