Re: [FWDLK] EXPERIENCE IN WATER BLASTING!!??

----- Original Message -----

The undercarriage of my newest acquisition has the most
original,,,solid,,rust and dent free undercarriage I have ever seen.
The orig FACTORY UNDERCOAT and 2 very conscious previous owners have
'done her well'

MY PROBLEM--The undercoat is literally coated with dirt and crud that
only a wire brush can remove.
A sponge and detergent do basically nothing!!!
With all of the hidden spaces,,,tight spaces etc etc,, a wire brush and
wheel would take years!!

Has anyone ever used a water jet to remove such crud from an
undercarriage?????????

ie: does it work?
Is it mild enough NOT to remove the undercoat??

I hate introducing water to anywhere on her belly BUT I do not see any
other way,,,other than a body off resto.

You want to make the undercoating look "pretty", ... is that right ?

Or are you packing around hell's half acre in all the nooks and crannies ?

A pressure washer will do the job regardless.  I have several for my business,  They have different tips for different spray patterns and intensities.  The handles also vary, allowing you to get into micro spaces.  Out here in the PNW, you can rent one at most rental shops.  Get the car on a lift and prepare to get really wet and dirty.  I strongly suggest full enclosure goggles for the eyes.  Whether or not you rip the undercoat off depends on whether or not it is still attached to the metal and not just "bridging" between areas that are, and of course, the distance you shoot the water from.  These units run at 3000+ lbs of pressure and use very little water.  They can inflict fatal injuries through water injection with the skin, to give you an idea of what you are working with.  Nothing to be afraid of, but they do serious work and will make an old grey sidewalk look like new concrete again, so taking that grey matter off that "pretty" black undercoat oughta be a cinch !
