It's complete, relatively solid (particularly for a midwestern example of a
car that suffered greatly from rust issues), and would be a relatively easy
restoration. It needs a few panels, but nothing major, and it has the wrong
engine, which can be found, or cloned. The only thing in really bad shape
is the interior, and these cars are so popular I have to think a guy can
redo it and get it right without too much trouble.
Plus it's the real deal. You could hardly ask for a better starting point, especially now that the car is 50 years old, for a car that didn't exactly grow on trees even when it was new. The over $10,000 bid price it had the last I looked proves that if you have some idea how to actually repair the car, then you know it's well worth it. There's nothing wrong with paying someone else to do all your maintenance and not even knowing where the valve stems are to put air in the tires, but having loads of money doesn't make someone an automatic car expert. Selling actual junk the last few years, if there's one thing I've found, guys who actually build them usually want the best they can find to start with, and they're willing to pay for it. Junk is the Fury I found years ago - mangled in the back where the frames always rot, trim falling off, glass gone, interior gone, hood gone, intake gone, motor probably full of water and rust. But I know a guy who started with an FP block just as bad and drives that car to shows all summer. Had to sleeve two of the bores to make it useable. I guess junk is also in the eye of the beholder. If the mangled mess I just described was a convertible, I could find someone who'd buy it and build it - I've sold lots of them that rough.
