Re: [FWDLK] car lifespans

My car survived Indiana, thanx to undercoating, altho the deceased
original owner's son had a (very-) quickie lower-panel rust-out be
bondo'd
over, with aftermarket rocker skins be screwed(!) & welded on..

The car was probably in overall #3 condition, and the 'son' had put it
on a used car lot, in LaPorte , IN, but advertised it, for the not-cheap
amount of $3,400.00 .

I negotiated the sale at $3,200.00 , I felt, after the rust-over was
discovered, that I probably should have paid about $2,700.00 for it.

Did I mention that I bought it, in 1980 (sight unseen) and that I got a
partial-purchase-loan, from Navy Credit Union, for 3 years?

Anyway, speaking of "life expectancy" , when I tried to access the
nuts/studs, which held the front fender pot metal "crown" molding 'on',
I couldn't feel "them".

It later developed that a large mass of dried-mud (off-road IN-driving,
apparently) had formed solid-"plugs" , up above the headlight
enclosures, so that those 'plugs' apparently worked to prevent salt
water from deteriorating the upper/front of the fenders!!!

The floors were essentially rust-free , but the OEM undercoating was
'wasted'; but, at least, it did its duty and sacrificed itself, for the
car's survival.
