About this "data plate" stuff, - my '59 Sport Fury has NO tag on the doorpost. Two holes, - but it doesn't look like anything was ever there. There is a plate on the firewall, which does contain the VIN, - above the brake booster, on the (somewhat) "horizontal" surface sort of under the rear edge of the hood. I did find the VIN stamped into the LR frame rail during a trailer hitch installation some years ago, - it is long gone now though, - had to weld right over the top of it to mount the hitch. (hope that firewall plate never falls off!)
