Thanks for all the replies about the variable wipers in my 59 Dodge not shutting off and parking properly. It looks to me like the ground wire to the motor is hooked up and in excellent shape, and I don't have windshield washers, so I don't think grounding is the problem. I've been studying the shop manual and it looks to me like the switch doesn't actually turn the motor off; instead, in the off position it causes the motor to reverse and then a cam and spring inside the motor turns off a switch in the motor itself when the wipers reach the park position. So although the problem could be the dash switch or possibly that the wiring to the dash switch is hooked up wrong, I'm kind of leaning toward the problem being something in the wiper motor. It's too cold to work on it now, but I'll play with it later and let you all know. BTW, although the 59 variable speed wiper motor carries a different part number than the 57-58, the 1959 supplement (which is supposed to address only those things that are different about the 59's) says nothing about windshield wipers. The only info about wipers is in the 58 manual. Makes me think that the 57-8 and 59 motors are going to interchange, but I'll report on that later, too.
