Let me add one more suggestion. If the cross shaft (I'm not sure what you call it) in the ball and trunion u-joint is off center, you will get a bad vibration. This cross shaft is pressed into the driveshaft, but sometimes this pressed fit will loosen (happened to me twice) in a high-mileage driveshaft, and it won't stay centered. Doesn't seem like a u-joint problem would be felt mostly in the steering wheel, though.
