[FWDLK] my comments

Hello list,
I have not formally introduced myself yet. My name is Don Roberts, I am 26.
I am not wealthy, highly educated, nor am I well noted member of society. I
just like old cars. I subscribe to this list for two main reasons. First,
there is a vast deal of useful knowledge to learn from other people. Second,
being on-line hides many things that are usually prejudged by appearance. I
purchased my first car when I was 16. I have owned 53 since, ranging in
years from 1942 to 1994. Some of these were for profit and some for
enjoyment. I currently own a '58 Crown Imperial, '61 NewYorker, '62
Oldsmobile 98, '69 Cougar, four Hondas, and a Plymouth Sundance. The
Imperial is a four door sedan that I bought from a gentleman who was on his
way to the recycler. In my opinion it is a great car. It has 72K, fully
loaded, with no rust or dents. The previous owner decided this car was
worthless based on the number of doors. He literally cut the engine out and
put it in a T-bucket. It still has the plastic seat covers on it! But, none
the less it was doomed by its appearance. I have been storing my Imperial
since 1994 while waiting for a "correct" engine. I am currently finishing
the rebuild of my 392. Many times I have considered substituting a non
original motor due to obscure parts or even just the cost when I did find
them. I purchased my Olds from family member's estate auction. It has a mere
44K on it, and looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. I was so
excited when I got it that I called a friend of mine to come look at it. He
has a very nice Corvette collection. Upon arrival he instantly noticed the
number of doors totalled to four. His first response was that maybe if I was
lucky I could find a convertible that was wrecked in the front and use my
car for parts, "then I would have something". When people criticize my cars
based on the body style, the make, or the modifications that I've made to
them, it becomes very easy to lose interest in this hobby. I enjoy what I
have, and I respect what others have.
