Shannon,
You can identify a 383 or 361 by the raised pad on the engine with the
engine id number stamped in it. On the 361 engine the pad will be located
next to the distributor. On the 383 which should be a raised deck block the
pad will be located under the air conditioning compressor. I'm not sure what
year they went away from the raised deck block for the 383 but I believe 61
was the last year. If it is not a raised deck block but instead a low deck
block the number pad will be beside the distributor on the 383 just like the
361. You can look at the numbers and figure it out. They usually have 361 or
383 stamped in the pad. Hope this helps
