Hello All,
The numbers I took were from the '59
Plymouth Service Manual. I think the book John's referring got a
little confused and instead of identifying engine numbers it's identifying
series numbers. MD2 is for a Coronet V8 and MD3 is for the Royal, Custom Royal,
and Sierra Wagons. I got these numbers from the '59 Parts Manual. It's a shame
newer ID books don't check all of the facts before they're printed. In a
Chrysler book I have that has a price guide, it says to add 20% to the value of
a '57 Plymouth if it's factory equipped with a 392 Hemi. Man, wouldn't that be
nice! Well so much for modern books!
Take Care,
Frank

V8's
According to the
book "American Car ID Numbers 1950-1959" the 1959 318 engine numbers started
with the prefix MD2 and the 361's started with the prefix MD3. They were
place on the block as stated below by Frank. I wonder if every book
written has different nomenclature for our cars? Good old Chrysler!
