Larry,
Just because your drums "look good" and the linings "look good" is, as you
have learned, not good enough. I dont think your problem is spring-related.
Your shoes are grabbing. This can be caused by contaminated linings (from
leaky brake cylinders or dirty hands installing them). If they are
contaminated, then your drum surfaces will be also .
But more likely, your shoes were not fitted to your drums. Let me explain...
When I was ready to get my brakes redone, I asked a very reputable Mopar
person here in Seattle how I should go about it. He told me to take my
drums AND shoes to a quality brake shop and tell them I want the shoes
relined and fitted to the drums..
The shop relines the shoes and "turns" the drums and somewhere along the way
each pair of shoes is ground/cut to fit the specific drum.
I havent had a chance yet to test my new brakes, but it made perfect sense
to me at the time.
