Sunday afternoon I began cleaning 40 years worth of dirt, tar, and basic
road crude from my rear fender wells.
I was using a concentrated cleaner from AutoZone called Power-Clean (if I
remember correctly). I was thinking
at the time "I'll need to let the rest of the list know about this
stuff, it works pretty good".
It cuts dirt, grease, and everything off quickly, a little paint too so
it's only for prep work.
Anyway, I was on my back with the spray bottle and a hose and a putty
knife getting the big chunks off.
At some unknown point I must have gotten some in my eyes. I was wearing
safety glasses (most of the time). It
was about 101 degrees out and I was wet and sweating like a pig so I
could have just wiped my eyes with my
hand.
I ended up in the local Emergency Room. It seemed as if I was in a smoke
filled bar or looking through an extremely dirty
windshield. My eyes were as red as beets and burning. I couldn't
recognize faces from 20 ft. away.
They stuck these 2 small suction cups on my eyes. They each had a small
hose attached to a liter of saline. It took
1/2 an hour of flushing this way. Great fun and spooky too ala Clockwork
Orange. I'm back to normal vision today but that is some nasty stuff. I guess
that I'll do the other fender this weekend with a plastic bag over my
head.
REMEMBER: watch out for all those nasty chemicals.
