It's been awhile since I pulled the motor out of the 56 Savoy (6cyl) I removed the radiator, but not the support. I don't remember exactly where I attached the chain, but I did not take any head bolts out. In the front of the motor, I usually use one of the holes from a backet and in the rear, a trans bellhousiung bolt. I also pulled the motor and transmission out as one piece. I remeber it being relatively simple as I did it myself. I used a cherry picker with the hood removed. As far as exhaust, soak them very very well with penetration oil. If you break them and don't have access to torches, I would drop the motor into a pickup and drive down the local exhaust shop. When I broke mine recently the motor was in the car, so I put the car on the trailer and brought it down there. The removed all the studs for me, and put in new ones. I think he charged me $20. Be sure to pull the motor out slowly, there's always someting forgotten to remove, I get caught alot with the body to enging ground strap Good luck, Nick ----- Original Message ----- From: Dan Morton <morton@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, April 22, 2000 11:19 AM Subject: [FWDLK] Advice on pulling a motor > It's time to get the flathead rebuilt, and I've lined up a shop to do it. > I've dropped the driveshaft and the transmission, now it's time to strip > down the block and yank it.
