Greetings, I got a lead on a possible D500-1 from Dave Homstad. He relayed that Richard Petty's cousin Don had once owned a Dash One and was a big car collector and Chrysler fan (Whoda Thunkit). He did own one many years back but it was sold and I haven't been able to track it down. Don however was very nice and is a very active car collector. He has a complete collection of 300 letter cars, which he believes is the only complete collection at this time. This collection includes a 300F 4spd, the actual Daytona Speed Weeks recorder holder for 1960. Among many Forward Look cars he also owns two 57 Desoto Adventurers one convertible one coupe. He also said he had just bought a computer and was interested in creating a web site to showcase his cars, so that's something to keep an eye out for. I sent him some photos of my Dash One car he was very surprised to hear of a surviving example. He said that essentially all of the old Petty racecars were scraped including 3 or 4 D500-1 cars. He said most cars were completely torn up, especially on short tracks (where Dodges excelled) and after that any good parts were sold off to sportsman divisions. Nobody ever really thought to save these cars because they weren't collector cars and the idea of collector cars was not anything like it is today. Same holds true for the lot of our Forward Look cars. Hey and that's exactly why it is what it is today. Especially for us Forward Look fans-its pretty tough sledin. Good day all. Tim |
