I sent this earlier today, but I think it did not arrive to the list. Pardon the re-post if the original arrived. It appears that it is time to tutor the dummy. I completed rebuilding my 1956 Dodge Powerflite transmission over the weekend. There were some surprises when trying to connect my parking brake to the rear of the transmission. I have two questions. 1. The parking brake hub attaches to the splined output shaft. The seal in the transmission tail piece seals around the exterior side of the parking brake hub flange. The interior side of the flange slides onto the splines of the output shaft. The hub is retained by a stamped washer, lock washer and a large nut. There is no seal to prevent transmission fluid from leaking out along the splines and around the nut/washer stack-up. There is no evidence of a gasket between the propeller shaft flange and the parking brake hub. How do you seal the output shaft of the transmission? 2. The return spring for the parking brake is different than described in my shop manual. The manual describes pins in the brake shoe and a spring that captures the pins. My set-up has no pins, but the return spring appears to have the pins incorporated into the spring design, however there is no mechanical lock to keep the return spring from vibrating out of the holes in the brake shoe.
