Ah here it is, nested in the buzzom of my Nov 52 Issue of Hop UP. >From a cars and parts annual of maybe 12 years ago, a table of tire sizes... to wit a pre 1965 7:10 x 15 tire has as its equivalent 8:25 x 15 1965 on bias ply or a G78-15 or in radials 205R15 or GR78-15 Unfortunately no chart on proper rim widths for appropriate tire which DOES affect safety ride and handling A 5.5 inch rim width for 56 Ply wagon or Fury should work up to that 205R15 Above that it may well be too narrow for the tire to have the proper profile so the sidewalls work as designed. Sure the tire goes round etc etc but it screws up the handling- no matter how good we have convinced outselves these relics handle. Put the same tire on your 6 cyl plymouth with 4.5 inch rims and the tire dont work as designed. If U have a 57 up >>>>>LOOK car Rim widths are greater due to change in tire design and car weight/size. Again Rotsa Ruck Lars I had to search the wreckig yards for a spare wheel for my 56 wagon with 11" rear drums, and still got another bent wheel. finally My 51Merc 2 dr came with L 78 15 Radials. Great on the interstate but not so much in town. Steering at low speeds was like for Arnold Schwartzenegger. Replaced them with Sears bias plys of proper size and it was like Power steering!! |
