shift kit/shift improver are the same thing...  in a 904/727, the same valve
body is used.. the kits entail removing the valve body, drilling an extra
bypass with included template, enlarging the 2 main supplies, inserting a
backflow restristor, changing kick down and gear entry settings, a few springs
here + there... and its done!!  in my experience, you feel a great
improvement, though u dont feel the full benefits unless you use a better
converter.. for more stall,  in addition, i highly recommend the TCI rtf, for
all applications, it is a [green] synthetic trans fluid, compatible with all
types of fluid ,[not to mix, but with all types of trans requirements i should
say]  i have even used it in a fluid drive '47 dodge..
while i have the tailshaft off, i also file a groove in the yoke bushing for
improved oil delivery out back.. but i dont think u r planning on removing the
trans... but with out installing the hi-pressure spring in th front pump,
[trans needs to be out] dont even bother doing the rest of the mods.. u need
increased pressure to benefit from increased valve body flow,
