Torqueflites were only offered midyear '56 and then AFAIK only on cars
with the 354 engine. They *may* have turned up in DeSotos or Windsors
but I've never seen one so equipped.

A friend mounted a 727 in a '56 DeSoto (originally w/Powerflite) a
number of years ago. I seem to recall the case bolting up okay (if
anyone knows otherwise, please tell us!) but some kind of irritation
with converter/flexplate/starter; remember the location of what the
complication was but not the specifics.

Button box was not as big a deal as one might have thought. '57-'64
trucks used something close to the '56 button box. A newer button
control unit went right in, and with the truck faceplate and buttons
it looked completely stock... ...tho this might not work on a '56
Plymouth, which has a slightly different button box from the other
makes, not to mention a faceplate which says "New PowerFlite".
Something could probably be fashioned into an acceptable looking
faceplate out of sheetmetal.

Pushbutton 727s have a switch-actuated parking pawl, and are generally
assumed to have rear drum emergency brakes. My friend managed to
mount the park switch under the DeSoto button box, using a '63-'64
Dodge 880 switch (which moved left to right, as opposed to the up-down
left-mounted switch used on AFAIK all non-Dodges; this type switch was
also found on '62-'63 Dodge B-bodies). It is clearly not original but
doesn't look as bad as one might think from the description. The
emergency brake question is a whole other kettle of fish. I believe
'62 Chryslers and Imperials (and possibly '63 Imperials as well) kept
the earlier driveshaft emergency brake. You could probably use those
parts, but if I were putting this level of work into this conversion
I'd go to the more modern rear brakes as well.
