Yep, you can find cheaper parts. I posed this fact to Dan Stern, an
automotive electrical engineer w/a Mopar bent when I mentioned that I found
brand X for less. His reply was that his Hella brand relays are of superior
quality than the brand I had menitioned, I forget now what that was but
Belnap rings a bell (ok, pun intended). There is a small mention of what a
cheap relay can leave you with on his relay tech page at

He also included quality mounting hardware, a fuse holder, and connectors in
his relay kit. After receiving the goods, I had no buyer's remorse. I trust
his automotive electrical knowledge, he's corrected me many a time on
various aspects of auto electronics and Moparea in general, and he has the
credentials to back it up with.
As well, I'll make another plug for the Cibie' Complex Reflector headlamps
he sells. They are the finest headlamps available. They have a higher
efficiency of light distribution than any other lamp bucket with the complex
shaping of it's reflector backing, giving the light of a higher wattage bulb
with standard wattage. They also have a cool city lamp feature that I use as
daytime running lights.

A relay of any type that takes the power away from the switch and directs it
directly to the bulb should be highly considered on any Imperial or Chrysler
with the rocker switch type of headlamp switch. If you go with a cheap
relay, buy and carry a spare.
I don't get a kickback or have any connection to his company, this comes
from being a satisfied customer.

maintenance procedure. $45-55 for the relay plus a couple bucks in wiring
and connectors vs $100 for a NOS switch just makes $ense. The installation
is very easy, I installed one in my '72 Newport and only had to putz
around
the front of the engine compartment to mount the relay and do the
necessary
wiring from the alternator and headlamps.

I think the relay can be a lot cheaper than $45.
