Re: IML: Best wishes for hurricane survival.

Wouldn't it be AWESOME if, after the hurricane has passed, if a whole fleet of Imperials, bearing supplies (food, water, flashlights, gasoline, etc) were to show up at their place? I just have a vision of that in my head.....

Thanks Mark for your well wishes! We are prepared (as much as one can for 140+ mph winds). That is one good thing about hurricanes. You do have plenty of time (usually) to get quite a bit done to safeguard your property. Dash Riprock (our Imperial convertible) is in a sound structure (restoration shop) so we are hoping we won't have problems there. Our other collector cars are safe as well in a very strong structure built in the fifties. It has weathered many hurricanes including Camille in '69 and Frederic in '79. We live about 45 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and less than 5 miles from the bay! Gonna be a rough night!

Life is going to be pretty tough for a while (no power for weeks, debris everywhere, long lines for basic necessities). But, if we can make it through this relatively unscathed, we will thank our lucky stars! Who knows what will happen? Lots of tornadoes in these tropical systems and major wave action at the shore (25'-30' high waves gobbling up the beautiful sandy beaches) can do PLENTY of damage in a short time. We've been told to expect 36' hours of tropical storm force winds (up to 39 mph) and part of that will be hurricane force winds (74+ mph). Oh joy!!!!!!!!!!

All the best to everyone on the list and in case the worst should happen (God forbid), it has been a wonderful experience being a part of this club! Thanks for all the uplifting emails from you all!

Hope this finds you guys safe and sound. Here in DC hurricanes rarely affect us much, I know this isn't true for Mobile, AL though.

Take care - and let us know how you make out. Hoping that you, your home, and vehicles survive Ivan OK.

P.S. Keep in touch - and let me know if you do another winter car show/party, I don't want to miss it!

Mark.
