Phil, my 68 Sedan developed the same problem back in 98 or so.  I had bled the
brakes many times while chasing another problem, and the old M/C had enough. 
When I replaced it, I did not mess with the rusty booster.  It still works
fine.  I hope that the engine vacuum had sucked the excess fluid long ago...
