Ken, I buy my points and condensers from normal stores, and I have had good luck
with them.  15K miles is typical life, and sometimes I replace them just for
fear of deterioration.  A worn out distributor (the bushings) can be
responsible for points missbehavior.  You can buy a 440 replacement distributor
with points installed for about $50, and you won't have to mess with the points
for a good while.
