Hi all:
Here is an explanation for the rings direct from the parts book;
All Imperials, starting with serial #100001, used a single ring, 4 part #'s: 1810610, 1810611, 1810612, 1810613. The last 4 door LeBaron sedan was serial #100198, the last 4 door hardtop LeBaron was serial #100174. Only the LeBaron changed its rings as follows:
LeBaron sedan serial #'s, 100199 to 100320 and LeBaron 4 door hardtops serial #'s 100175 to 100327 had these part #'s: 1690828, 1690829, 1690830, 1690831. These I think had the Crown emblem.
These LeBaron serial #'s, 4 door sedans, after serial #100310, 4 door hardtops after serial #100327 had the dual rings, part #'s: fronts, 2093144, 2093145, 2093146, 2093147. Rear rings part #'s: 1690828, 1690829, 1690830, 1690831. LeBarons were the only line to go thru the changes with regards to the rings.
Without checking my 59 Custom's rings out back, I would say the non crown rings were Customs, the crown rings were Crowns, and the LeBaron, depending where the car falls in the serial number, early, middle and late issue, determines which ring set was used.
This information is in the group number: 23-23-39 for those who would like to see it for yourself.
I would think if you have a very early LeBaron with the "Custom" rings and "Crown" rings would be a very rare LeBaron. It will be the single ring configuration. The third series being the dual ring series, will be more common. Hope this sheds some light on a subject I had fun many years ago debating. Joe Machado
