Al can be chromed, your original pot metal can all so be restored. First the chrome is stripped off, then it is polished. then copper plated. Any pit marks are then filled with Lead , this is applied with a soldering iron. The lead is polished back etc . The piece is then sent through the normal triple process, copper , nickel then chrome. I have had this done in the past to some of my other cars, & comes up quiet well. Be aware that not all chrome shops will want to do this type of work though. It takes TIME. So, I am thinking of recasting some pot metal parts in a metal that will stand the test of time. I saw the post about that some chromers would not plate SS, so is AL a metal that will work?
